Brand History

The history of Laura Ashley dates back to 1953 when Laura and Bernard Ashley began hand printing fabric at their kitchen table in Pimlico, England after Laura had been inspired by a Women’s Institute Exhibition at the V&A museum. They spent £10 on wood for a screen, fabric and dyes and together began hand crafting one of the most signature lifestyle brands world wide.

They weren’t without their hardships however, as the business had to face rough times during their rise to fame. This included huge environmental damage to goods and stock due to a river bursting its banks, and disappointing turnovers during multiple location changes. Despite this they were able to see a very successful future for their brand early on and were determined to pursue it. This resulted in some truly iconic moments for the business over the years, such as being awarded the Queens award for export achievement in 1977. The brand was also chosen to design multiple rooms in the US Embassy in 1982 and Bernard was knighted by the Queen of England in 1987.

Laura Ashley is one of the greatest examples of determination and hard work paying off, and the brand has truly earned their status as giants in the industry. The brand continues to be a staple in the fashion and interior lighting/interior design industry despite both Laura and Bernard passing away, and will continue to live up to the expectations they once set for their brand for a long time to come.

The Harrington Range

The Harrington range offers a collection of beautifully crafted ceiling pendants along with a single wall light, all offered in both classic polished chrome and antique brass finishes. They possess an industrial style appearance with the lantern style frame and metal candle-holder bulb case, all of which really adds to the older industrial aesthetic that the Harrington is known for. The top products in this range are the five and three light ceiling pendants, both of which feature an adjustable chain.

The Fernhurst Range

Another one of our most well known and frequent purchases are from the Fernhurst collection. The collection is very small compared to some of the others, being limited to only three lights, but don’t let this fool you as this you can’t help but fall in love with this range. There are two semi flush ceiling lights and one wall light which all feature a gorgeous polished chrome and crystal bar shade that simply oozes Art Deco style. The way the light bounces off the crystal in these lights is absolutely stunning, and these lights are perfect for lower ceilings and smaller rooms.
